The Interchange story: From crisis to confidence

In the wake of high-profile exchange collapses and growing regulatory scrutiny, institutional investors needed a safer way to access digital asset markets and liquidity.

Zodia Custody’s Interchange was originally conceived in response to an urgent need for institutional investors to protect themselves against centralised exchange counterparty risk, following a number of high-profile losses. Events like the collapse of FTX, Mt. Gox, and others have highlighted the dangers of holding assets on exchanges that could become insolvent or suffer security breaches.

Off-exchange settlement (OES) became increasingly important as institutions entered the digital asset space, they demanded more secure and independent infrastructure that would enable them to trade efficiently.

We built Interchange to solve this

Originally created to remove the risk of holding assets on centralised exchanges, Interchange introduced off-exchange settlement, where assets remain securely in segregated custody until trades are complete.

Partnerships with the world’s leading institutional exchanges including LMAX Digital and Bitfinex laid strong foundations for Zodia’s Interchange product to grow.

Fast forward three years and as our clients’ needs and partner capabilities have matured, so too has our product.

Interchange’s next chapter

We believe that custodians are the anchor of the institutional digital asset ecosystem, and we see it as Zodia Custody’s role to provide the secure, compliant digital assets market infrastructure that connects our clients and partners with each other.

Now, with Interchange’s next chapter, the product has evolved into a full-scale settlement network that connects institutions to trading, lending, borrowing and structured product opportunities, all while keeping their assets protected, visible, and secure.
